The first signs of winter snuck in through the back door of fall and stretched the tight fitted sheet over the lake as graceful geese and fat mallards land for a quick bite to eat; disappointedly they find that their private pool has been closed for a winters retreat.

The clatter of the plates was calming. The clinking noise of the glasses made her feel safe. Reassured. She looked down at the dissolving suds and smiled. Her fingers were beginning to prune. Just a few more and she would be done ... although she was not rushing. This was her only refuge for tonight.

shape right in the middle of the fog?

It sure did look like a heart with its dull beating its strong redundant noise.

It seemed lost as if someone had given up on it.

Fortuitously I went once to that empty space you may sometimes find between two cities. This is neither a matter of luck nor misfortune. It is about getting lost willingly or not.

Many would find it frightening at first but after a while almost everyone would feel the peculiar exhilaration of loneliness. It could get bad, but for at least a short time, all there is, is peace.

Last month a gay man ejaculated while being body searched by a Transportation Security Administration agent as required by the federal government in order to board his flight at San Francisco International Airport.  The act could be construed as an ingenious passive resistant protest maneuver against rights-violating government searches.
