    The whole school knew about me and Ricky Burns. Or at least it felt like the whole school knew about me and Ricky Burns because I tripped nearly every time he came into view and stared at him wide-eyed all through lunch and squealed a little in my seat every time the teacher called his name.

I learned to tie my broken shoelaces in a dirt brown ground down town; the town was so poverty bound that there was not enough money to entice the city officials to contemplate embezzlement. The educational gutter system in sundown town was pathetic and ludicrous at best with little to no scholastic benefit.

"Well a loving personal God."

"As espoused by the Abrahamic religions?"

"Yes."

God-fucking-damn it was the first thing I thought when I woke up. I had to give a presentation in my Conflicts in Asia class that day. I put on a ragged polo shirt which was I assure you classier than my usual holy T-shirt shuffled out of my dorm into the dining hall shoveled a shit-ton of oatmeal and raisins into my mouth to try to fortify my weak body from skipping dinner the night before, and resentfully made my way to class.

Marshmallows plop into my bowl leaving the comfort of their plastic bag to prepare for their inevitable fate. Most people use popcorn but to me marshmallows are always the perfect movie food. I guess it has to do with the movie nights Mum used to have. When a movie would have a certain type of food as a plot point, she would prepare some of that food to watch during the film.
