He had stepped out of his comfort zone only to be greeted by a sense of jubulation and although the swell of his heart just before he made the leap was almost unbearable; his ecstasy reached a new level as he handed the flight attendant his ticket. He was leaving for good and he knew it.

Everything that had ever existed, would be forgotten or faded over time. The fear of that happening, had kept him stranded in his own mind for years. Decades actually, if he were honest about it. Self sabotage had been his aide in not attempting an escape. Excuses became his friend, and daily life swallowed his dreams. But now as he boarded the plane, his carry-on seemed to place itself in the overhead compartment, and with just a glance at the assigned seating he sat down. His soul knew where to rest.

He felt as if the blood was draining from his scalp, peeling back his old indentity, creating a weightless, electrical sensation all through his body. The corners of his mouth started to involuntarily twitch, forming a smile on his face. A smile, while common to some, was a rarity to him. It was exhilirating!-the simplest of gestures, yet definitely the most spiritual thing he had experienced in quite some time... perhaps even lifetimes ago. The plane taxied out to the runway.

Even though he had no concept of what the future held for him, he was not afraid. Not anymore. Surrendering finally, to the path that he always knew he would have to travel, he was at peace; content to be guided by this new found freedom. He closed his eyes and said "Thank-you" to the universe. The engines roared to life and he thought to himself... "What a beautiful sound."
