She will miss the kiss.

It lingers on and she tastes him.

Something that she never experiences

and longs for,

her brief emancipation.

He tosses her like a rag doll,

entwined, she is trembling,

he breaks her in two,

that last kiss, now lips closed tightly,

out the door.

Wilson drives the day labor
with coded directives of the same hand
he uses to correct the horses
with help from a two-by-four.

Those of us who understand him:
a sun-bitten fourth generation West Texan,
continue to craft tax shelters
for the man in the sprawling spread
up from the valley, down from the hill.

in a shack by the river.

Hieroglyphics found on a barroom wall

next to that poster of Farrah.

Escaping to the nearby lake the lovers drove their cars

Through winding road to waters edge they broke the

It starts in the brain.

Lingering fogs of morning hanging grey as the sun tries desperate to burn through with a moment of clear thought.

The milk still on the counter sweating sodden pools down to the floor.

A light is on in the room long empty.

Still the haze settles in the lowlands of the mind.

There are no words because there cannot be any.

There is no I for there is only dualities joining inside.

Backwards the staff pushes and falls lifted and levering matted quitch grass twitch and taprooted taxaxacum rhizomes twisted wrapping steel in knots

Poets come complaining of a poem lacking flow.

Even when it drips. Heavily. Steadily so.

Hungrily readily these interns crow

Ignoring the soft tissue.

Whilst other patients die from misuse.
