Janet never felt comfortable riding in taxis.  Perhaps it was because  growing up her family was poor and not being able to afford riding in luxury they were instead forced to board the public bus.  But now at the age of twenty-nine she had made a nice living for herself.  She climbed the ladder in her department, received company bonuses that seemed to increase with each passing year, and acquired a well furnished apartment downtown amidst the very best restaurants and shops.

Chinatown in San Francisco sits like a pearl in an oyster an unexpected gem in an odd location. Being a slice of China itself it represents both the authentic folk ways of the people and the cheap mass production mentality of it’s government. All of this lies slap in the middle of one of America’s most artistic cities.

I woke up on the living room floor covered by a blanket of crushed empty beer cans and stale cigarette butts. The cold December sun burned an icy imprint into my eyes as I shuddered to my feet and stumbled to the bathroom. Christmas day the day we celebrate some baby who was born sometime somewhere.

The destination was clear. The way was unclear and complicated. First he had to cross the bridge though if he looked over the railing he could see the destination as precisely as the human eye can distinguish. The bridge was massive requiring the utmost strength for walking its length. It was no ordinary bridge but one that looked grim and foreboding, as if the shadows that swelled in and around it held an ominous fate for those who strayed into the bridges black heart.
