“I don’t think there’s anything left in me Jerry ” he said as he leaned into the bar sliding a pint of beer forward with his hand as he did so. The speaker was Charlie Higgins. Every Friday for the past twenty-four years the evening moved along in the same fashion. One might say that the same conversation took place between Charlie and Jerry the bartender week after week, varying only slightly in accordance with the minutia of common chat, such as weather, sports, and politics.

Frank Sanders is a nationwide syndicated columnist who dispenses his "hillbilly wisdom" to any who will listen. Frank works as a painter and sometimes graveyard landscaper in Beckley WV.

Dear Frank

I just joined a great company but I have found one flaw: a co-worker who works no more than 3 hours in an 8-hour workday. He spends time at lunch, shopping, fielding personal phone calls, and chatting with other workers. I have to take up the slack.

Peter Walter finishes his last class of the morning and catches the Kinston Avenue #12 Bus to the Central Square Merchantile Building. He’s looking to put in four hours work at his parttime job interning for Pissaro and Ware Architects. Carlo Pissaro, Peter’s boss, is in but only briefly. He has nothing to do. He will shortly slip out, pick up his wife and both of them will take in a doubleheader at Compton Point Field.

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that contrary to prevailing views (Higgins Merkel 1994) there is substantial evidence (Overton Louis & Sweeney 1997) which clearly corroborates previously well-understood though inadequately documented data points (Jones Jones & Smith 1958) correlating empirical methods of interpretation (Doug 1988) with more recent advances in statistical computation (Others, 2003). This analysis extends and clarifies significant metrics (Jan and Dean, 1963), which are shown to appreciably influence research outcomes (Yo Momma, 2004) when observed under normative investigative protocols (Kukla, Fran and Ollie, 1977).
