Labor Day Has Roots in New York and Chicago’s Labor Reform Movement

Many Americans enjoy a day off of work and leisure activates to celebrate Labor Day but few know its roots.  Observed on the first Monday in September Labor Day became a federal holiday when President Grover Cleveland signed legislation June 28 1894 to appease the organized labor movement.

We met in the meadow

There was grass and then soft blanket and bodies lay naked and complimentary under half moons and full night skies where each star glowed as if promises were fulfilled on desires and whims.  And grasses lay damp and bodies would end in such places giving even the ants the opportunity for nibbles on what flesh was available.

There ought to be in every hand a well-thumbed and annotated copy of Ovid’s Metamorphoses. It should be found – splayed its leaves fattened with moisture and sun – wedged between windshields and dashboards.
