There is so much that I do not understand.

Like what do you have to grasp on,

When the storm is inside your head?

When the whirlwind of thoughts are out of your reach,

And you cannot keep hold of yourself.

There is so much that I do not understand.

When the mannequin arms wrap around you,

And the plastic smiles blankly gaze down,

Not meeting you in the eyes.

There is so much that I do not understand.

When the footsteps left behind in the sand

On the edge of the ocean are washed away.

Leaving nothing behind but the lie of perfect smoothness,

And treasures buried and beaten by the waves.

There is so much that I do not understand.

How a sparkling gem such as love,

Can become tarnished and dusty,

And break the bond between those who share its wealth.

There is so much that I do not understand.

Like hope that shines as Jupiter in the night sky,

And hope that goes as light into a black hole.

But we continue to get out of our beds day after day.

I wish we all had a happy ending to our lives.

But nothing is guaranteed.

We are so entwined into one another,

Yet lost in who we are,

That sometimes we cannot see what is plainly in front of us,

And that is whatever we want to see.
