We survived,a threshold to paramount exultation lurked
As I got admitted to the High school so afamed and wished upon;
I remember well the first entrance to the hyped life beckoning
The red walls,the library,the laboratory and the rooms furnished
With a lot of machines.The new teachers,new companions;
A seeming blissful tenure awaited captivating mt breath
Induced with lustrous dreams like limestones glistening in the
Bed of the stagnant valley,the little tadpoles swimming poetically,
The outlandish crabs enthralling sight retreating beneath
Clandestine boulders,the ivy green grasses poised in a trance
Then the giddy ford testing courage we ne`er minded.
I remember the first day at school with a poignant reminiscence;
The siren signed school out.hundreds of learners stumbled over the assembly
And toward the gate,shining faces sparkling dreams,raised ambitions,
I couldn`t wait to narrate to my brother the adventures of the acclaimed life.
He himself a prodigy of intellectual capacity still to be nourished
I could not wait for eveningĀ to settle and tell mt father about
My new life,ironically i could not wait for grandfather to hear my outburst.
Subconsciously with a grieving heart i knew
Grandmother`s spirit consoles mines through every waking day,
I rather not grieve her death entrenching the heart with sorrow
But rather reminisce the good memories we shared as a family.
I crossed my home street lost in jubilation pacing towards home
Strangely the countenances of my neighbours were pitiful,
They seemed mesmerized with a criminal level of admiration-
So I thought,everyone was out and about in an eery rush,
The eavesdroppers leaning on fences speaking on low voices.
My brother was confused as I was.sailing in a cloud of tumult
Truth held from us,father was on work as usual ,his brother
Out and about and now any moment grandfather will come
Riding his antique bicycle with a distinctive red case on front,
An archaic cog system,a feign ragged sitting pedal-
The revered whiplash tucked crafty near the handlebars,
The sling hooked near a back trouser pocket,
The illuminous silver chain clicking with types of keys.
Although hardhearted,disciplinarian,he exhibited some nobility.
I remember the white van halting by the gate at twilight;
The revered kins dismounting with noted obsequiousness,
Father sighed and coughed communicating some message,
We sat attentively on a white bench as ordered by the kins.
Slowly as if testing the tone nor gathering courage
Spoke grandma sister a sombre revelation-
"Your grandfather has been knocked down by a car."
