This poem is for the ones who risk their lives
So that friends and family and strangers can live their lives in peace at home
For the ones who have hope, and privilege to win
and have the wounds and scars, mentally and physically to prove it
This poem is for the ones who receive rewards because they served in the
Wars, and served in Pearl Harbor and the bombing of the Twin-Towers.
For those who are scared, nervous, but brave all at the same time
For those who salute to the Star-Spangled Banner
And sing the national anthem to honor the soldiers in the past.
This poem is for the anxious families at home
Praying that their loved ones will come and celebrate victory
For the ones who are loading guns, bombs, tanks, and other weapons
For the ones who are watching their loved ones get killed right and left
On the bloody battlefield every day
This poem is for the families at home
Receiving a letter they never wanted to see in their life
For the ones giving the letters
Watching tear after tear on a woman's face
Like a raindrop on a rock
For the ones who miss holidays and send videos of them to comfort their families to let them know they're ok
For the ones who go through years and years of school
And years and years of training for what?
To save our country
This poem is for the ones searching for shelter day and night
For the ones searching for loved ones missing in action
For the ones who can’t go to sleep at night
Because of the images of blood and death in their mind
For the ones putting up blue, gold, and silver stars to honor their family members
This poem is for the children pretending to serve
Not knowing the harsh things about the armed forces
And the loving parents not wanting to lose a child
For the mothers and fathers wanting their children to follow in their footsteps
This poem is for the men and women standing in the cold ringing a bell
Outside a big shopping center
Trying their best to raise money
For the hidden heroes all around us.
This poem is for the hidden heroes we take for granted every day.
