Claudia watched the small shiny beads of sweat tumble down the men’s faces forming thin rivers in the canyons of creases on their foreheads. They were balanced on a rusty crane carefully feeding a 1978 Chickering piano through the gaping mouth of the open window. She watched as the two men grabbed opposite sides of the sleek, cream-colored instrument, stopping it from teetering back and forth in the hot summer breeze and slid it into her living room.

When he slid into bed the first thing she said to him was “Can you help Charlie with his diorama tomorrow?”

            Rick grumbled and ruffled the sheets.  He stretched his legs out and his feet and his toes until they all popped in unison like a nail gun.  “I don’t know Anne, maybe.  I don’t know yet.  Maybe I can help him.  Mr. Dee needs me in tomorrow early,” he said.  “What does he need to do?”
