(Retort)
Me te aroha nui (with all my love)
I rise from your stillness
Spouting tornados of torrential words
Wet words that swirl around your quiet
Stirring the spring rain waters
down
Into hungry cracks of dry earth
Your hands following the shape of your heart
As your sun makes love to the sky
I feel you as you creak into my bones
With little more than moist whispers
Even though I’m growing old
But I imagine you hear young thoughts
As silent loneliness dissipates in exhales
Rain from your words begin draining
Into the pooling of this poet’s soul
Can you hear it?
Can you hear me as I begin breaking?
Me te aroha nui
As words turn from rain into snow
Cracks in my soul are awakening
So into your stillness I now go
