Dark eyes flecked with green and brown
Rage drawn across a red face
Secrets exposed, the past brought up
More of her alcoholic drink falls past her lips

Letting the effects wear in, she calms, but only for a moment
The alcohol never did exactly what she wanted
It changed her, made her worse than normal
But she never wanted it to stop

Trying to drown out the sorrow
She lets anger take the place of her heartache
Her words shot through the air, meaning to sound broken
But coming out filled with hate and despair

The resentment she feels is taken out on others
Trying to erase her own fear for once, just once
Standing tall and letting the insults rain down
Family and friends try not to break under her fury

Knowing that the poisonous drink had taken control
No one blamed her for the destructive words she screamed
Everyone let that be her excuse and didn't say another word
But in the back of their minds, they knew it was wrong

She continues her rampage
Tearing down everything in her path
Letting herself be consumed by the strong liquid
She knew she was a goner

She falls to the ground, unknowing of the pain
Bags hang under her eyes, hair left in stringy knots
A sigh is let out as her dreams take over
A beautiful home, a beautiful family,  beautiful life

The pounding headache pulls her from the peace
Struggling to stand at one in the afternoon
The rest of her makeup smeared off from the night before
Showing how truly broken and defeated she was

Knocking back more booze, she sobs into her hands
Holding on to her last strand of hope
Her heart cracking further
She reaches for the glass and takes a sip

Then another
And another
Swallowing more
Some spilling down her face

Until the cup is dry and she is in need of a refill
She's at the bottom of another bottle in hours, minutes, seconds
The pain inside her breaks open like a dam
And suddenly she can't breathe

The floor comes closer and closer to her face
Arms hang limply, not reaching out to stop the fall
Her head smacks the white kitchen tile
And doesn't even know if it's her own screams that she hears

Her ears are ringing and the red lights are too bright
Her eyes seem to blink in slow motion
The alcohol has its final grips on her
Trying to take the last of her life

She tries to slur an explanation
A reason for her to be in such a situation
But no thoughts come to mind, so no words escape her mouth
And she lets her body finally give up

She can't move away from the gloved hands lifting her limp body
She can't jump off the stretcher she is strapped into
She can't run from the ambulance that slowly comes into view
She has no more excuses, so she quit resisting

She can feel the needles in her arms
The oxygen mask that is pressed over her face
The people holding her body down
And a small hand grasping her own

With that one small thought in mind, she closes her eyes
While asleep she feels the poison leaving her body
Only to wake and hear me whisper
"Mom?"
