Moonlight creeps through my bedroom door

Along the floor and into my core

Recession, regression, depression and more

Our children stood no chance

To hear music made just to dance

Or butterfly fields near caterpillar streams

Baby fingers playing and happy screams

Air and sun was clear

Dreams played without fear

As governments cared for us all

Before greed made them fall

Where is the honor of souls?

Where is the freedom they sold?

What will you think growing old?

Is fame and fortune warm or cold?

Nothing can return us there

When each city was a fair

When neighbors really cared

When police made you safe

And criminals had no face

When mixing brown and white

Added a little special spice

And war was a lazy thing

Not full of hungry fangs

Door to door salesman rang

Mama was the most beautiful thing

Happy in an apron and wedding ring

Now moonlight creeps through my door

But not like it did before

It just lays dead on the floor
