Listen my children and I’ll tell you a story
About a nation built on power and glory
The early ancestors fought hard and bled
Some lost their lives to defend this homestead
They continued to build and this nation grew
Into a large melting pot of human stew
They said give me your sick, tired and poor
In this land of freedom there is room for more
But they still did not know how to get along
And for all of their good they still did wrong
They segregated some for religion or race
And that made this not such a friendly place
The government they created had become weak
Representing the rich and ignoring the meek
Neglecting the nation and its failing health
The politicians concerns were of personal wealth
Next religion and sex became financial empires
As leaders were flagrant towards their own desires
This made it much harder for some to believe
There was hope for anything left to retrieve
So the state of this nation became beat and battered
Money was the only thing that seemed to matter
And foundations this nation had been built upon
Had saw better moments and the moments were gone
When other nations taunted their wealth and power
They sent bombs in all directions in the final hour
For seven long days the earth was quiet and still
Like a ship without a captain manning the wheel
Soon people were rising from the dust and rubble
Then they formed little tribes and began to huddle
All those left living were weak but united
Survivors of the day that this planet ignited
So my children pay attention to what you were told
Our purpose grows lost chasing riches and gold
For inside this existence we’re now living within
You are our hope for a chance to try once again
