There’s a farmhouse in the valley
Set in the shade of swaying pine
Where the morning sunshine glistens in the dew
There’s a family round the table
Two kids you and I
It’s a lovely dream if only it were true.
But the farmhouse burnt down last summer
And the crops have failed again n
Our boy went off to war. He won’t be coming home
There’s no shoes for our girl’s feet and there’s not enough to eat
Our dreams are all we’ve left to call our own
And we prayed it would be better
For ourselves and for the kids
And while it didn’t quite work out that way
We sure dreamed it did
