Maybe I should note that the pool, the sponge, and the sea cucumber are euphemistic metaphors... Hope you guys have fun deciphering it.

Well, water is a universal metaphor for fertility, "heaving" and "emergence" seem like symbols of pubscent self awareness, and a sea cucumber would seem to fit nicely into a fertility construct.
