They catch us when we are falling

Nets of safety spread below us

For the one time our trapeze will fail

Waiting patiently strong.

They fix the world to suit our needs

Flat tires, crooked shelves, heavy stuff, pickle jars,

Fixed, straightened, lifted and opened,

All done with pride.

They tell us with words, the things that matter most to them,

Sometimes clearly, sometimes not,

Actions being the definitive,

Truth in devotion.

And they take us away, sweeping us off of our feet,

Swirling us into the sky,

Our toes touching the stars,

Giddy in love.

They promise us affection and happiness,

Following through in ways we’re not aware of,

A kiss while we are sleeping, a glance across the room,

Shameless sincerity.

They make a life with us, for us, because of us,

Married to the thought of life together,

Soul mates need no verification,

Sentiment reigns supreme.

And they lay down the law, when protecting our children,

With shotguns and solid threats,

Intimidating the vultures of the world,

Grizzly bear fashion.

And they hold us at night when we can’t stop crying,

Being the shelter from the storm,

That rages inside us, trying to drown us in tears,

Silent unwavering anchors.

They make us laugh until our sides hurt,

Being silly and fun, telling jokes, playing tickle monster,

Dancing, singing, and horsing around,

Preferred jokers.

They smell of hard work, dirt, metal and sweat,

Metallic scented hormones, race to our loins,

Causing cravings that become addiction,

Dirty lovers.

And when they’re showered clean,

We curl around them like cats, eager to be petted,

Inhaling their skin and nuzzling their necks,

Victims of attraction.

They ask for advice, and expect us to have answers,

Looking to us as a source of solution,

The keys to those locked doors,

Modestly received.

And they trust us with their hearts,

To replenish them with encouragement,

To feed their egos with humility,

Warriors of faith.

They truly are essential, without them there’s no us,

These men in our lives, respect them,

Yes.

We must.

From your heart to our heads wicked one. We men mainly think you keep us around for tote'in the bails, it's good to know we also grow in your fields. "They smell of hard work metal and sweat-metallic sented hormones-dirty love" As a man of steel...

From your heart to our heads wicked one. We men mainly think you keep us around for tote'in the bails, it's good to know we also grow in your fields. "They smell of hard work metal and sweat-metallic sented hormones-dirty love" As a man of steel your heated words have again melted me onto the floor. Great insight and the ability to get it on "computer paper".

Hey. Real nice. As someone who generally thinks the worst of my gender - mostly on the basis of personal experience - it's nice to know there is the faint hope of redemption. Thanks for the insight into why we manage to be tolerated despite the havoc we too often invoke in the name of our own, uncertain manhood.

Thanks guys ;)I know that women in general spend a lot more time complaining about men than they do praising them (my husband himself feels pretty under-appreciated at times) but I truly love men... the way they walk, talk, smell, look, feel,...

Thanks guys ;)I know that women in general spend a lot more time complaining about men than they do praising them (my husband himself feels pretty under-appreciated at times) but I truly love men... the way they walk, talk, smell, look, feel, sound etc. Van- Once I was taking a class and this guy sat next to me, he smelled of iron and steel and sweat and I had to move across the room because I was so turned on. I couldn't stop staring and thinking and... well, you get the picture. Being a married woman doesn't kill you're sense of smell I thought this piece was important because sometimes our bitching taken out of context and ya'll are convinced that we are all just a bunch of man hating skanks and very simply it's not true, it's just harder to express our appreciation... Maybe for fear that once we tell you guys how much we need you, that you will refuse to give it? idk. All I know is that this was from the heart and it was written with you guys in mind I'm glad you liked it!

Heart felt work is the best. I read your prose piece "Seriously" in the same sitting and found the two somehow related to each other. I am tentative to bring up a pyschological point, but studies show women are more sympathetic towards men when called to jury duty, and are fairly unforgiving towards women. Go figure.

You tentative? What's up with that? Who knows really? I just wanted to say something positive... maybe I'll have to do "Women"...

Really nice piece that flows from one line to another so well. And so good to hear something positive and truthful about guys, in what can be a negative world sometimes. We men often write of the 'greatness of a woman', but rarely are those words...

Really nice piece that flows from one line to another so well. And so good to hear something positive and truthful about guys, in what can be a negative world sometimes. We men often write of the 'greatness of a woman', but rarely are those words returned without it involving the 'fantasy of the man'. A piece to be proud of, and thanks for sharing.
