The Wait
He was always so calm
And she always played so coy.
But there was rough waters churning
The storm was right there beneath the surface
Just waiting...
He had been bitter
And she had been broken
The sharp glass shards cutting into her arms
And the binds tightening around her
Just waiting...
And he was late again
And she was impatient again.
The crack was working its way up from the foundation
And spreading its branches upwards to the sky
Just waiting...
He came in with a smile.
She came back with a slap.
And there it was...
The wait was over.
He held his stinging face
While she picked up the last of her dignity.
He was in shock
And she was gone.
