Stay Close to Me

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

Old soul in eyes pale blue
Harsh light on gentle skin.
I marvel at the sight of you.
Stay close to me.

So ready to see your light
Not so to see you dim.
Heaven glows angelic white.
Stay close to me.

Tiny hands curl like waves,
Breath, so real, so faint...
Gaze like God Himself has saved.
Stay close to me.

Apology like wind, ringing phone.
I simply do not hear.
You were never mine to truly own.
Stay close to me.

Final, whispered, weary breath.
Slumped weight within my arms.
Eyelids flutter shut to rest.
Please, dear.
Stay close to me.

Your metatag to this poem, i.e. "A mother with a still-born child says good-bye" adds a new insight into this piece. The sense of longing was palpable.

How very sad... I am sure your baby is still close to you. This was a beautiful tribute.
