Doubt

The day doubt delivered me from pain

I rejoiced and marveled in my choice

It had saved me and I was grateful

The day doubt delivered me from pain

I pledged never not to doubt again

Forever.

The day doubt deprived me of love

My emotions punished me

I had no pain

Because of doubt

But I had no love either

Doubt isolated me from my emotions

I became an island afraid of water

This poem stood out for me because of its subtlty. Many writers try to overpower, myself included, with grandiosity. (Bleeding souls, and broken hearts, and flames of confusion!)
